Ask Questions: What happens if your lip fillers go wrong?

February 3, 2015

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic injectables treatment to create fullness for your lips. However, there are times where beauty backfires and instead of the ‘pouty’ look, you end up having shapeless lips with an upper lip that’s unusually bigger than the lower lip, otherwise known as the dreaded trout pout.  So what happens if your lip fillers go wrong?

We recently received a letter from an anonymous source about this issue asking if there is a way to reverse the fullness effect.

Letter From Anonymous:

Hi Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia!

I recently got my lip fillers done because I wanted a ‘pouty’ look to my lips. The doctor ended up injecting too much lip fillers, and as a result, I have these bulbous lips which look unnatural on my thin face. My daughter’s wedding is in 4 weeks and I was wondering if there is any way I could reduce the size of my lips in a short time frame?

Thanks so much for you help!

So what did we do?

Understanding how unhappy this lady was, we felt we needed to respond to her concerns immediately. So here’s Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia‘s response to correcting trout pouts:

Dear Anonymous,

I send my condolences to you, as you’re clearly unhappy with the result this clinic has achieved for you.  If you’re lips are over-filled or too puffy, my suggestion is to wait a week or so first. This is because there is often some puffiness right after a lip filler treatment is done, and that goes down within 7-10 days.

If your lips are still over-filled or too puffy by that time, it’s best to call Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia and make an appointment and explain your concerns. As you’re wanting to reduce the size of your lips, we inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase into your lips to reduce the size.

However, this only works on lip fillers which contain AHAs (h********c acids), as they’re temporary and will eventually dissolve into the body. If you’ve got permanent fillers on the other hand, this procedure won’t work as they’re non-absorbable, and will need to be surgically removed.

I hope that answers your question on filler mistakes! In the 40,000 lip enhancements we’ve done here at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia, we’ve never had a client requesting this from a treatment we’ve done. However, we’ve had experience in fixing this issue for patients from other clinics and are more than happy to do so for you.

To book an appointment, please call 1300 88 99 35 or book online.

Kindest regards
