The Main Steps of a Dermal Filler TreatmentJuly 21, 2014
Having a dermal filler treatment is a very simple procedure, with no down time. Perhaps the best thing about dermal fillers is that they produce instant results and are relatively pain-free.
Dermal fillers are, in fact, soft mouldable gels that are injected under the skin. They are made from natural skin products and in time become part of the natural skin structure. If you would like to know more about what is involved in receiving a dermal filler treatment, read on…
Here are the main steps of a dermal fillers treatment session:
Sometimes the doctor might decide that the best procedure is to divide the treatment in several different sessions.
All of the dermal fillers are easy to inject; the actual injection takes only a minute, so it is over very quickly. The overall procedure should take only 5-10 minutes once the skin is cleaned and prepared. The fillers contain local anaesthetic that leaves the area numbed for 20 minutes or so.
It is very important that you revisit the clinic for a quick consultation and “moulding” within 1-2 days after the procedure. Many low-cost clinics may skip this step, however at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia we place great importance on the follow-up and aftercare procedure. Often the injected fillers will move slightly over the first day so post-injection massage is necessary and an important after-care service. There is no charge for this.
Downtime, aftercare, side-effects
The procedure is quick and relatively pain-free even after the local anaesthetic wears off. The area can be tender to touch but this settles after a few days so you can return to your normal daily activities straight away. It is sometimes advised that you use a camouflage powder to mask minor temporary redness.
Bruising can occur but this can be minimised with careful attention to detail. Here at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia, we apply post-treatment pressure on the needling points thus minimising any bruising.
Swelling is apparent for a few hours – but this does not usually cause any discomfort.
A day or two after the treatment you have to return to the clinic for the doctor to smooth out the gel padding and ensure that there are no lumps. The doctor will also check that the dermal filler is providing the maximum repair and support in the correct area.
Sometimes it is advised to use dermal fillers in two or even three consecutive treatments for certain areas.
