The Rise In Male Cosmetic Enhancement TreatmentsApril 24, 2015
Male cosmetic enhancement treatments aren’t just on the rise, they’re booming. While the statistics for cosmetic surgery in Australia aren’t available, the current statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) show the number of cosmetic procedures by men have increased by 273% since 1997. The most popular treatment? Anti-wrinkle injections.
“Cosmetic surgery for men is a growing field, and non-surgical treatment like anti-wrinkle injections are growing faster than surgical treatments like liposuction,” says Dr Garry Cussell, the CEO and Principal Physician at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia. “There’s a huge shift in non-invasive male cosmetic surgery, particularly in the last few years.”
The fact that a number of male celebrities including Simon Cowell and George Clooney have spoken out about their own surgery has perhaps also removed any negative stigma about non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
Whatever the motivation is, it’s clear cosmetic procedures are no longer a woman’s world. Male cosmetic enhancement procedures are a popular talking point, and are helping thousands of men overcome issues with their appearance. At Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia, we’re here to talk about the most common procedures performed on men.
Non-surgical skin tightening methods such as SkinTight and Thermage target the skin’s deeper dermis layer, tightening the underlying tissue structure without damaging the skin surface. This increases new collagen production, improving skin texture and reduce sagging skin. The advantages of these skin tightening treatments is that they’re quick, non-invasive with no down time required.
Non-Invasive Fat Reduction
Coolsculpting is one of the most popular male treatments at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia, which involves the fat slightly lower freezing point than water. The fat cells are then metabolised through the body’s usual process over several weeks. Coolsculpting (also known as fat freezing) involves no downtime, with minimal discomfort.
Generally, a series of treatments per area achieves a noticeable result, although some notice a circumferential reduction in the area.
Anti-Wrinkle and Filler Treatments
Anti-wrinkle injections are used to reduce appearance of wrinkles – these are formed by repeated muscle contractions from facial expressions such as frown lines and crow’s feet. It requires no down time and patients can see results within 7-10 days.
However, the injection can also be used for those who have a condition called hyperhidrosis, otherwise known as excessive sweating. This is injected under the skin to target sweat glands, blocking the nerve messages that stimulate sweat production – thus preventing perspiration. The treatment will last between 6 to 12 months, depending on the individual.
Dermal fillers are another common cosmetic treatment among males, especially those who have experienced loss of facial volume. Though using dermal fillers should be used sparingly, as too much volume on the face may make men look more feminine.
Laser Hair Removal
Intense pulsed light (IPL) and Arion Laser Hair Removal treatments are used to treat hair growth in areas such as the back and chest. The laser targets the hair follicle, and destroys it at its base. On average, six treatments are required to remove the hair, depending on the area being treated. The treatment does involve some discomfort, but the results are long term.
Another treatment at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia which isn’t cosmetic, but is common among male patients who come to the clinic is anti-snoring treatments. Up to 40% of Australian males over the age 40 have a snoring problem and our revolutionary snoring laser treatment, SleepTight, alleviates the symptoms of snoring and sleep apnoea in three, 20 minute sessions.
