Medical Injectables In SydneyApril 27, 2020
During the COVID-19 lockdowns in Sydney, cosmetic practices had to be put on hold temporarily for the health and safety of the community. Certain medical services are still considered essential at this time, so if you suffer from migraines, hyperhidrosis, TMJ or pain induced by teeth grinding, you can still access injectable treatments for these conditions.
Teeth Grinding and TMJ
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain is a condition that leads to pain or tenderness in the jaw, and it may cause chronic clenching, locking or discomfort while chewing. The cause is not known for certain, but it may be genetic, or it may be related to arthritis or injury to the jaw.
Teeth grinding (bruxism) can wreak havoc on your dental health and eventually cause jaw pain, clenching or headaches.
Anti-wrinkle injections administered to the masseter muscles that control the jaw can help soften the muscle to reduce clenching and associated pain. You can still chew and speak as normal, but grinding, clenching and pain can be greatly reduced.
Migraines occur when nerve signals from the brain cause blood vessels and muscles to compress and contract painfully. If you experience frequent migraines, you will probably understand how much they can interfere with your work and home life.
As a preventative measure, anti-wrinkle injections can be used to safely block the signal that causes the painful contractions associated with migraines. As with any treatment, you will need to consult a doctor to determine if preventative measures are right for you. Keeping a diary when your migraines occur, and how often, can help in consultation.
Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
It is normal to sweat in response to heat or stressful situations, but those who experience hyperhidrosis may sweat bucketfuls with little cause, or in some cases, no cause at all!
Hyperhidrosis may occur all over the body, or in localised sweat glands, such as the underarms, palms of the hands and feet. In localised areas, anti-wrinkle injections can be administered to block signals to the sweat glands that cause them to overproduce. They provide relief for sweating that is too excessive for antiperspirants to help.
Medically speaking, anti-wrinkle injections are a treatment, not a cure. Though they aren’t permanent, they can provide welcome relief to help you feel better and maintain your regular lifestyle for a considerable period of time.
We currently have complimentary video consultations with our doctors, and though our cosmetic treatments are temporarily unavailable, we are open for limited medical appointments, including essential treatment for the above conditions, and we’ve increased our normally high standards of hygiene to prevent the spread of infection.
