What To Expect When Planning For LipoSculptureJune 20, 2019
If you’re considering liposuction, or its more refined version, LipoScultpure, you may not be sure where to start or what to expect. Here is a guide to the common process from enquiry to procedure.
You’ve done some reading online, looked at before and after photos and given the procedure some careful consideration. This is a good time to call some clinics and book your first consultation. There are no obligations to go ahead with treatment after a consultation, and it’s a great opportunity to get all the information you need and ask any questions you may have.
At your first consultation at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia, we’ll explain the process and ask a few questions about your medical history and your fat reduction goals because we need to make sure that this treatment is safe for you. We also want to ensure we can deliver the results you want. You’ll also get a quote for the cost of your procedure and how many areas we recommend
Clinics may charge anywhere from $0 to $300 for a consultation. Our consultations are complimentary because we think it’s important that you make a well-informed decision without feeling pressure from money you’ve already spent.
If you decide to go ahead and contact us to book your treatment, we’ll also book you in for a pre-operative appointment.
This appointment is normally two weeks before your treatment date. It’s when you come in to be fitted for your post-treatment garment, take “before” photos and do a final medical check to ensure that you’re healthy and ok to go ahead. The photos are kept confidential and used for you to compare your final result after the procedure. We would only ever share them if you gave express written consent to our Nurse.
This appointment is also an opportunity for you to get information on preparation and aftercare.
We’ll call you two days before your treatment date to confirm your admission time.
LipoSculpture is performed in theatre at our Chatswood clinic. It only requires a local anaesthetic and the treatment is less complex than liposuction, which makes LipoSculpture an easy walk-in, walk-out procedure.
On the day of treatment, Dr Rich and Nurse Jenny will have another consultation with you before admitting you to theatre. They’ll take steps to ensure that you’re comfortable and calm. Once in theatre, they completely numb the treatment area.
After your treatment, dressings and a garment are applied. Because LipoSculpture is slightly less invasive than liposuction, and because it doesn’t require a general anaesthetic, you can walk out of the clinic when you’re ready. We do recommend that you organise someone to escort you home, though.
Most people can return to their normal activities after 24 hours of downtime following LipoSculpture, but this depends on which areas are treated and how much fat is removed. While office work and light errands might be fine, you probably want to wait a bit longer before joining that kickboxing class at the gym.
We need to see you back in the clinic the day after your procedure to apply a new garment and ensure that you’re healing well. You’ll need to wear the garment for 2-4 weeks, as advised (but it can be removed for showering). “People grow to love them [their garments],” Nurse Jenny insists “they sometimes want to continue wearing them because they’re nice and tight and warm.”
We’ll also schedule 2 follow up appointments 8 weeks and 6 months after your treatment. It can take that long for full results to show after any lipo procedure. Sometimes, small lumps of fluid will form shortly after treatment, but the body resolves these themselves over a few weeks. It can also take up to 6 months for the skin to tighten up. The procedure prompts a healing response in the collagen fibres, and collagen needs time to regenerate and tighten up your skin after a loss of volume.
Our clinic charges one set price that includes all your consultations, but some clinics will charge for each step separately. It’s a good idea to ask about pricing at your first consultation so that you don’t end up with any surprises.
As Dr Rich says, lipo isn’t a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, but it can be a beautiful and motivating addition to it. Most importantly, if you’re uncertain about anything, reach out and ask. It’s why we’re here.
Please note that any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
