Liposculpture is a refined form of liposuction. It may also be known as “microcannula liposuction” because it uses a much smaller cannula, or it may also be known as “tumescent liposuction” because it uses tumescent (aka local) anaesthetic instead of general anaesthetic. LipoSculpture is used to remove substantial amounts of fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, back, legs, arms or double chin.
Liposuction uses a larger cannula and general anaesthetic, which means patients are required to stay overnight in hospital for post-anaesthesia monitoring. The larger cannula is also more aggressive, so recovery time tends to be longer (about 2 weeks).
In a LipoSculpture procedure, the treatment area is numbed completely, so the patient can be awake with only mild sedation. The doctor uses a smaller cannula (only 1mm in diametre) which is capable of removing a significant amount of fat, but it’s less aggressive. LipoSculpture is a walk-in, walk-out procedure with only about 24 hours of downtime afterward.
The smaller cannula also allows the doctor to perform finer sculpting for smoother, more even fat removal.
Liposculpture is a minimally invasive treatment performed under local anaesthetic.
Once the treatment area is completely numbed, a microcannula 1mm in diameter is used to soften the fat and suction it out. If there is discomfort during the procedure, the numbing can be increased.
The friction produced by the cannula beneath the skin also stimulates collagen regeneration in the deeper layers of skin to help it tighten up and retract naturally after the fat is removed.
As there is no general anaesthetic, you aren’t required to stay overnight, but we do require that you organise someone to escort you home safely after the procedure.
As the cannula entry points are only 1.5mm in diameter, there is very minimal scarring.
With the local anaesthetic, very little discomfort is felt during the procedure, and recovery can vary between patients. Some patients report no pain during recovery while others may be tender in the treatment area for a few days or a full week. Most of our patients can return to work after 24 hours following the procedure.
The procedure is relatively short. It can last 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how many areas are being treated.
You’ll be admitted to the clinic early on the day for preparation and an additional consultation with our doctor and medical staff.
After the procedure, you can go home as soon as the doctor determines that you’re ready to leave, so long as someone is there to escort you.
You’ll need about 24 hours of downtime before you can return to your normal activities. Some patients feel tenderness in the area treated for up to one week.
Areas that can be treated include:
LipoSculpture is considered to be the safest form of liposuction as you don’t have the associated risks involved with general anaesthesia.
The side effects of LipoSculpture are minimal. They include bruising and some soreness for several days or up to a week. For some, the marks from the microcannula may take a few months to fade, but as they are only 1.5mm in diameter, they usually heal well.
You’ll be in safe hands at our clinic as the procedure is done by Dr Michael Rich, an expert in Liposuction and LipoSculpture. He has an excellent record of success with smooth, even fat reduction using this technique.
All LipoSculpture procedures performed at Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia are done using sterile equipment in a properly prepared theatre to minimise the risk of infection.

Contrary to popular belief, results may take some time to become apparent.
The results of fat reduction should appear in 1-2 weeks as the swelling subsides and the fluid resolves. The skin retracts gradually over the next 6 months or so, as the collagen fibres take time to rebuild and tighten the skin.
Compared to traditional liposuction, microcannula LipoSculpture can remove fat more evenly and with a higher degree of skin tightening. Because LipoSculpture relies on local anaesthetic, you do not have the same risks associated with general anaesthetic and you won’t have to stay overnight.
LipoSculpture can remove more fat than our non-invasive treatment options. One of the main advantages of LipoSculpture is that most patients only require one treatment whereas non-invasive options often require a few treatment sessions.
We are all unique, so it’s important to find the treatment that’s right for you and your personal goals.
